Report on the 13th Willem C. Vis (East) International Arbitration Moot (Vis East moot)


The Nagoya University team has participated in the 13th Vis East Moot held in Hong Kong. This year, the moot is attended by 115 teams from countries across the world.

Although the team this year did not make it into the top 32, the team managed to secure an Honorable Mention for Claimant’s memorandum. The team is also the only team representing Japan that has managed to win an award this year. In 2015, the team representing Nagoya University received an Honorable Mention for Respondent’s memorandum, making this year the second consecutive win for the memorandum drafted by the team members.

The members of the team this year are Rui LIN (China, Leading M1), Vuthyka MEN (Cambodia, D1), Navinth RETHDA (Cambodia, M2) and Wanyi ZHANG (China, NUPACE). The team is led by coaches Qi Jun KWONG (Malaysia, Leading M1) and Benjamin RAETZ (Germany, M2), who were both participants of the moot in 2015. The team would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Professor Yokomizo, Professor Colombo, Professor McGinty, staffs at the leading office and to all students participating in the International Commercial Arbitration class for all their kind help and proactive support. The team further wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Mr. Satoshi Nakamura of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, Tokyo, for his most generous donation.
