Overview of Professional Training Programs

Obtain Knowledge, Research Ability, and Leadership

Core Curriculum

Study introductory courses in law and economics, with emphasize on theories, mainly in the masters' program, mainly in English.
Obtain ability to write high quality survey papers with help of Academic Writing classes and IT infrastructure to support English writing.

Student Think Tank

Organize group study from variety of backgrounds to tackle with common problems.
Discuss on the topic of students' own choice, to make proposals to improve institutions within a term in cooperation with foreign governments or Japanese local governments, including training to send information in several languages.

On-Demand Seminars

Invite appropriate researchers or professionals to give supervision, on students' own interest and need.

International Internship

Have International Internship or Overseas Practice in summer (mandatory).
Students can choose where to go, to commit in language training on the same time.
Planned field of practice include legal assistance, social reform, and studying abroad in foreign universities.

Proposing Research Achievements

Try to propose students' own research achievements through organizing small-sized research meetings or writing papers.

Mentors' Network

Commit in real problems with help from Mentors' Network organized worldwide, or foreign mentor from Nagoya University Alumni.
Train discussion abilities through seminars given by forefront professionals, researchers, or corporate managers through video conference system.

Language Proficiency

Obtain excellent proficiency in English and Asian languages.
Train first and second foreign languages in peer-to-peer way through video conference system. We will support making peers in cooperation with foreign universities, while training schedule shall be on students' own initiative.

Degrees Given

Students can obtain degrees of "LL.M. in Comparative Law" in the masters' program (first 2 years), and "Ph.D. in Comparative Law" in the doctoral program (latter 3 years).

Degree Examination

Different from the ordinary program in the Graduate School of Law, we will give degrees in step-by-step way to make combination from plural achievements, since the program is based on the curriculum totally planned to train professionals with high academic abilities.

Masters' program

We will examine masters' paper, consisted from plural survey papers written in core curriculum classes, with research plan in the doctoral program.

Doctoral Program

In its 1st and 2nd grade, students need to take On-Demand Seminars and International Internship to arrange their achievements to survey or report papers, to obtain credits in Special Research.
On condition that the student already took credits in Special Research, she can attach achievements so far to main doctoral thesis to answer to practical problems. The degree examination will be made on combination with these achievements.

Future Career

Please note that the main objective of "Leading Graduate Schools" programs is to train professionals with high research abilities. To educate future researchers or university professors is not our main goal.
We suppose such fields as global cooperations, assisting organizations both in Japan and overseas, or international organizations, as future career for the graduated students.
